Elevated serum potassium is a common clinical problem in patients with heart failure (HF) and patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In HF patients, the occurrence of hyperkalemia may be related to specific HF-related renal perfusion changes or as a result of renal involvement associated with a concurrent disease such as diabetes. Murray Epstein, MD from the University of Miami Miller School Of Medicine discusses the risk of hyperkalemia in patients with either chronic heart failure and /or chronic kidney disease.


Upon completion of the educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review the risk of hyperkalemia in patients with chronic heart failure and /or chronic kidney disease.
